The Christian Walk

7th April 2011

My little baby boy is now walking. A couple of months ago he took his first steps and fell into my arms. Today I watched as he confidently walked around the garden. The change in him has been gradual and it has taken a lot of practice. He has spent hours wobbling about, holding on to my hands, steadying himself on furniture and many times I have comforted him when he has fallen. But he has become stronger day by day and more steady on his feet.

It got me thinking. The Christian journey is a lot like my little boy learning to walk. It takes determination, and we must not give up. It also takes practice. We need to pray and read our Bibles daily and come to God and ask for help. We may fall and stumble in our walk with God and we may fail him by our actions but we must not give up. Just as I comforted my son when he has fallen, God will pick us up and help us to carry on.

I felt so proud watching my boy walking today and I believe that is how God feels about us when we choose to follow him. We are his children and he loves us. My son still hasn't fully mastered walking and in the same way none of us are perfect Christians, but God is with us. So be encouraged, God will help us with every step that we take on our Christian walk. So keep pressing on.

'He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.' (Micah 6:8)
