A New Year A New Start?

15th January 2012

2012 is now upon us and often a New Year is a time for reflection and a time for setting goals and resolutions for the New Year ahead. I know I have set myself a few challenges, all measurable ones - to go jogging 6 days a week and have one day off (so far I have managed except one day!)! To lose 18 pounds in weight (6 pounds off already!) and to add a page and blog to my website each month (watch this space!)

But the most important challenge for me and for us all this year is to grow in our relationship with God. At my church on New Year's Day, the pastor spoke on the verse below and I feel this should be every Christians aim for the year ahead:

"He has shown you, O man (woman), what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

To act Justly - Do we do what's right? Standing up for what we believe, treating people fairly and doing what we know is right and pleasing to God. Do our actions reflect what we believe?

To love mercy - Are we compassionate to everyone we meet? Do we act kindly and are we forgiving to others?

Walk humbly with our God - Do we have the right attitude of heart? Putting God first and do we act modestly and with meekness. The word that strikes me in this verse is 'walk', we are not to act humbly once or twice but all the time!

What a challenge! And what a difference we as Christians would make if we followed this verse. I'm going to try and I'll let you know how I get on!
