End of the World

22nd May 2011

The news has been full of predictions of the end of the world by preacher Harold Camping this week. Harold Camping predicted that there would be an earthquake followed by the rapture last night at 6pm. As we all know that did not happen.

All this hype and talk of the end of the world got me thinking this week. It is a fact that we learn from the Bible that Jesus will come again. But we cannot pinpoint the day or the hour. We CAN know the approximate season. The Bible says there will be signs of that day approaching ( a couple of examples of this are Matthew 24, 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and Luke 21:10,11,25,26).

Are we ready for his return? Do we look forward eagerly to the day? Sometimes when I talk to people about the end of the world, they feel a bit scared about it, but be assured for Christians it will be a great day.

Jesus says, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." (John 14:1-3).

What a wonderful promise. Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour said that He will prepare a home for us in God's Kingdom, in New Jerusalem and He will return again at the second coming to take us home to be with Him.

What good news this is. We will spend eternity with Jesus. So be encouraged to keep the faith and keep serving him in the tough times. Because we don't know the day or the hour be ready everyday. Look forward to the day when Jesus comes and he will throw His arms around us and say "Well done thou good and faithful servant.".
